When will the ASUS Vivobook S Copilot+ PC arrive in South Africa?

  • ASUS is one of the OEM partners Microsoft is working with to launch its new AI-focussed Copilot+ environment.
  • The ASUS Vivobook S 15 will sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X platform, 1TB of storage, and a claimed battery life of 18 hours.
  • The laptop will cost R29 999 when it lands in South Africa in June.

Alongside its announcement about Copilot+, Microsoft revealed it was working with a host of OEM partners that would be making tech for the software. Among those was ASUS which is known for its premium products.

ASUS has one laptop that supports Copilot+ and its the Vivobook S Copilot+. The laptop is running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X platform. As Microsoft tells it, Copilot+ PCs are running “powerful new silicon capable of an incredible 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second), all–day battery life and access to the most advanced AI models, Copilot+ PCs will enable you to do things you can’t on any other PC.”

The Vivobook S comes in two flavours with the only difference being either the Snapdragon X Elite or Plus platform. The CPU is Qualcomm’s Oryon which is paired with an Adreno GPU and up to 32GB of LPDDR5X at 8448. The neural processing unit (NPU) that’s handling all of the AI software is Qualcomm’s Hexagon which tops out at 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS).

The display measures 15.6 inches and boasts a 2880×1620 resolution at 120Hz. The display also supports DisplayHDR True Black 600, covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and an average accuracy of Delta-E < 1.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 Copilot+.

“The launch of our first ASUS Copilot+ PC powered by Snapdragon X Elite is an important milestone for us, and we believe that these devices are the future of consumer PCs and will drastically change the way we will work, study, create, and play,” co-chief executive officer at ASUS, S.Y. Hsu said in a press statement.

This laptop is primed for AI-powered tasks and ASUS appears to be appealing to those in creative fields to give this laptop a test drive.

“Next-gen AI-powered enhancements include Windows Studio Effects and an ASUS AiSense IR camera. The presence-detection capabilities of the camera enable Adaptive Dimming — which dims the screen when the user looks away — and Adaptive Lock, which automatically locks the laptop when the user moves away and unlocks it when they return. Additionally, the ASUS Vivobook S 15 is also the first device to feature the company’s exclusive AI app, StoryCube. It’s the smartest, most convenient, and most powerful way to manage all digital assets, using AI assistance to sort, edit, manage, and export captured raw files,” writes ASUS.

We’re somewhat intrigued by this notebook as it seems to us as if Microsoft and its OEM partners are trying to move into Apple territory. The performance on offer here looks incredible and the AI features may help to both speed things up and make Windows’ issues more digestible. That could prove tempting to those considering a move away from Apple.

Of course, that all depends on how well these Copilot+ PCs perform in the wild.

On that note, pre-orders for the ASUS Vivobook S 15 are open right now via Computer Mania, Incredible and the ASUS Eshop. The price tag is R29 999 no matter where you buy and deliveries will begin on 18th June. ASUS South Africa tells us that the laptop will also hit shelves on 18th June for those who prefer not to pre-order.
