• HONOR South Africa is getting ready to launch a new mid-range device in the form of the 200 Lite 5G.
• With SA’s mid-range market saturated with good value for money options, the 200 Lite 5G features a 108MP camera as one of its selling points.
• The device will go on sale at the beginning of next month.

Last week HONOR South Africa alerted media to a new mid-range smartphone that it planned to launch locally in the form of the 200 Lite 5G.

Now the company has revealed further details regarding the launch, including when the device will officially go on sale, as well as what it will cost when it does.

More on that shortly, but with South Africa having a rather saturated mid-range market at the moment with a number of well-specced and well-priced phones to choose from, it will take some doing for the new offering from HONOR to stand out.

To that end, the Chinese phone maker is highlighting the photography experience, and in particular the large 50MP selfie camera up front, and even larger 108MP primary camera on the rear.

“Comprised of a 108MP Main Camera, a Wide & Depth Camera, and a Macro Camera, as well as a 50MP Front Camera for those glorious selfies, photos come to life in all scenes and under any lighting conditions,” the company highlighted of the camera performance in a release shared with Hypertext.

“The HONOR 200 Lite 5G is custom-built for portrait photography, offering three distinct portrait modes: Environmental Portrait, Atmospheric Portrait and Close-up Portrait, providing users with the flexibility to effortlessly shoot with various focal lengths,” it added.

As for pricing and availability, as the headline explains, the new device will go on sale from 1st July. As for the recommended retail price (RPP), it will sell for R9 999. Interestingly, this is more than the waitlist pricing that Cellucity shared last week, but that may simply have been a tactic to entice pre-orders by the retailer.

From HONOR’s perspective, the company is also aiming to sweeten local deals by noting that, “All purchases will also come with free gifts to the value of R2,499, including an HONOR SuperCharger plus cable and screen protector in the box, free postal repair pickup and delivery service, 3-year battery health protection and a1 80-day screen accident warranty excluding labour fees.”
