Memo Pad HD7 is a budget Android dream

At Computex, today, Asus announced its Memo Pad HD7. If specs for the seven-inch tablet look familiar that’s because they are: it’s essentially a Nexus 7, with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera bunged in.

To recap, that’s a 7-inch 1280 x 720 IPS display with 10-point touch, a quad-core ARM Cortex A7 chip, Bluetooth 4.0, and a GPS. Best of all, Asus says that this budget tablet is aimed at developing markets, and as such it’ll retail for $129, or around R1 300. Granted, that’s for the 8GB version – a 16GB model will sell for $149 (around R1 500).

We’ve reached out to Asus South Africa to find out whether or not this colourful little number will be gracing our sunny shores, and at what price. It already has the Nexus 7 in the country, retailing for R2 999 (with 32GB of storage). A cheaper model might be feasible, and will definitely be desirable.
