BBM for Android demonstrated in leaked online video

Been dying to get your hands on BBM for Android? Well, you’re about to get one step closer.

Last night Android Central posted about a video that showed BlackBerry’s messaging app running on an Android device. By this morning, the video was gone – but since nothing is ever gone on the internet, we did some digging and found the video, thanks to an Android Central commenter who had uploaded it to Facebook.

The four-and-a-half-minute clip shows all of the BBM functionality on an Android handset, including a decidedly BlackBerry 10-like interface. Most of BBM’s functionality seems to be there, including the ability to send files, initiate group conversations, and managing contacts. The video’s creator also went to great lengths to show BBM’s integration with Android’s notifications – an important part of the modern smartphone experience.

It’s not yet clear how BBM will work with third-party devices, since the service relies on needlessly-complicated BBM PIN numbers on BlackBerry’s own devices. It’s possible such a PIN could be generated using a unique hardware ID on an iPhone or Android device, but that’s just our speculation.
