Zapacab app comes to Android and iOS

Tired of loading up a mobile website to hail a cab when you’re in Cape Town? Well, Zapacab has a fix for that, with its new mobile apps for Android and iOS.

The company says that demand came from users who wanted a one-touch, app-based experience. Having used the app – albeit with no drivers available in Johannesburg – we can attest to its simplicity and speed. Cape Town commuters will now have a better experience to look forward to. The simplicity extends to no account being needed to use the application, unlike other services. It does mean, however, that you’ll need cash on hand to pay for the taxi trip.

Rupert Sully, CEO of Zapacab, says that the company is also planning to bring its services to Johannesburg. “We will do it this year. We are busy planning how best to do launch. We need to learn from what we have done here and have a smooth launch strategy to offer the optimal service,” he said of the company’s plans to bring its app-powered taxi service to the financial capital. Hopefully when it lands later this year it’ll work perfectly.

Zapacab faces some competition in Gauteng, in the form of Snappcab as well as premium taxi service Uber. Both of those let you load your credit card details and pay through the app, but bring the added complexity of needing registered accounts. Time will tell how Zapacab responds to this, or whether it sticks to its simplicity-is-best guns. Either way, commuters get more choice and are the ultimate winners at the end of the day.
