Have an innovative idea for social change? The Shuttleworth Foundation, an initiative by South African entrepreneur and all-round do-gooder Mark Shuttleworth, is looking for individuals of any age from anywhere in the world to join its fellowship grant program.
The foundation, formed back in 2001, invests in social innovators with ideas that could potentially change the world around them and to help grow their projects. Fellows are given a grant and the money they themselves invest into their projects is multiplied by a factor of ten or more by the foundation.
Fellows also get to interact with one another, exchanging ideas and working together to make their projects better.
“We are looking for social innovators who are open at heart, have a fresh perspective on addressing challenges and have a very clear idea of their role in bringing about positive change,” the foundation says.” We are most interested in exceptional ideas at the intersection between technology, knowledge and learning, with openness being the key requirement.”
This year’s program will be hosted in September, applications are already open and close on 1st April.
You must send through the following to qualify:
- The (completed and submitted) application form.
- A public or private five minute application video (on any online video platform as long as you can provide a link to it)
- Your up to date curriculum vitae (CV)
“Propose what YOU want to do, not what you think we want to see. Of course it should be tied to our interests – innovation, technology, knowledge and learning – but an honest application from the gut lets your passion and commitment shine through,” the foundation encourages. “This is much more likely to be successful than a formulaic response to a call for proposals.”
You can submit your applications on the Shuttleworth Foundation website.
