Awesome South Africa to tempt consumers into boosting local business

Are you planning a holiday, wedding, family outing, business trip or anything else that’s similar but don’t know where to find the best places and deals? Awesome South Africa may be able to help.

Awesome South Africa is a new app that specifically caters for tourists and locals by promoting services, specials and packages from vendors in entertainment, food, accommodation and travel.

Think of it as Zomato, Whats On and The South African Travel Guide all-in-one.

The app is endorsed by Tourism SA and features 15 main categories for you to choose from such ‘sleep’ (accommodation), ‘eat’ (restaurants), ‘do’ (activities), ‘see’ (attractions), ‘shop’ (retail, arts and crafts), ‘beauty & relaxation’ (spas and hair salons) and so on.

Awesome South Africa will show additional information such as contact details, prices, location and how far it is from where you are.

Should you want to buy tickets for an event or flight, the app will redirect you to the website where you can do so. You’ll also be able look up services nearest to you within a 500km radius if you’re not looking to head out of town.

Since the app only launched in February, the Awesome South Africa is still a work in progress. At present, only Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg and surrounding areas are covered but the developers are working on adding more locations in the coming months.

Vendors and merchants can have their services or products listed for free on the app and if they want to add any promotions, news, events or specials, they can do so by paying an annual fee of R899.

Awesome South Africa gives vendors and merchants promotional tent cards with QR codes that they can place at their business locations so customers and clients can scan and find listing and promos on the app. The company also says it doesn’t take any commission from the advertised offerings.

Awesome South Africa is available now for both Android and iOS.
