Sunninghill joins the Joburg Fibre To The Home club

Forget ADSL, as more suburbs around the greater Johannesburg area are being connected to fibre internet connections for superfast broadband. While a good number of urban areas have already been connected to Fibre To The Home (FTTH), Sunninghill is the latest suburb to make the jump – and once again it’s a triumph of people power as the local community association has done the work to get private companies interested.

Sunninghill’s fibre will be provided by Metro Fibre Networx (MFN), as it was one of a few companies that could satisfy the Ratepayers Association’s list of six requirements. MFN already has a lot of fibre in the ground in the area, as it supplies commercial customers including international call centres in Sunninghill’s business parks.

According to the ratepayer’s association, part of the reason for enticing a fibre provider into the residential areas is to increase bandwidth for the suburb’s CCTV camera network, which it boast “have resulted in a number of successful arrests of criminals by the Sandton Saps.”

The project will start gaining real ground in the coming weeks, as it is also when prices and broadband package will be made available.

“Now that we have commitment, we are hard at work to bring you your long awaited fibre to the home and business. Over the next few weeks you will receive a lot of emails from us; pamphlets handed out and information days etc, where you will be able to choose the package you want from one of the two authorised Metro Fibre Networx resellers,” it explained in a statement.

New lines will be installed along Lingerette and Tana Roads, while “additional fibre needed to be installed will come as the interest grows from our businesses and residents.”
