New Deus Ex game for PC, Xbox One and PS4 confirmed

Oh, happy day: mega-publisher Square Enix has finally officially confirmed the existence of a new Deus Ex game via the unveiling of the cover of the May issue of Game Informer magazine.

It’s subtitled “Mankind Divided”, and is apparently all about the huge schism between augmented and non-augmented humans caused by the events at the end of the previous game, Human Revolution.

Game Informer writes “Adam Jensen returns and joins forces with an Interpol-funded task force aiming to hunt down and capture augmented terrorists in a world that now hates and fears transhumans.” and make use of a bunch of new upgrades to his artificial limbs to make your way through a settings full of challenges that must be overcome.

When it releases, Mankind Divided will be out on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

The new game is being developed by Eidos Montreal, the studio behind Human Revolution, which has apparently learned from the mistakes of that game and won’t be making them again, with any luck.

If you played HR, you’ll remember how unbalanced the boss battles were if you favoured stealth: many bosses were incredibly tough to beat as suddenly you were wrenched from your preferred playstyle and thrust into an actiony one-on-one confrontation that required skills that you hadn’t upgraded, something that annoyed a lot of players. It was corrected in the subsequent Director’s Cut of the game, but it left a lasting impression.

That Game Informer says Eidos-Montreal is actively working to ensure that doesn’t happen again, as well as designing even more choice into how the player tackles levels, is heartening.

Nobody’s talking release date, though, so there’s no point in getting too excited just yet as it may be as far off as 2016, but perhaps we’ll hear more at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo that’s taking place in June.
