Eskom has implemented Stage 2 loadshedding

Power utility Eskom announced early this morning that Stage 1 loadshedding has been brought in effect from 6am, and it expects it to last until 10pm tonight. At around 8.20, GridWatch, News24’s loadshedding app, revealed that Stage 2 will be implemented soon.

After proclaiming to the public that Eskom won’t be switching off the light in the winter months, today’s loadshedding marks a number of day this week in which loadshedding as enacted.

“Eskom would like to assure customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term,” it said in a statement.

“Any unexpected changes on the vulnerable and constrained power system could lead to a change in the load shedding stage at short notice.”

Eskom hasn’t revealed the forecast for the weekend, but if the past couple of weeks are anything to go by, then we can probably expect loadshedding.
