Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) supplier Vumatel has arguably been the fastest to cover most of Johannesburg with the super-fast broadband technology in a very short time, seemingly rolling out to multiple suburbs every other week.

At its current expansion rate the company is eyeing the milestone of connecting over 30 000 homes by the end of February next year – and also announced new suburbs earmarked for connection.

The Residents’ Associations in Hurlingham, Glenadrienne, Hyde Park, Northcliff, Sharonlea and Olivedale recently approved the installation of Vumatel’s Vuma Fibre product.

“With these new suburbs we will have provided services to over 30,000 homes by February next year,” Vumatel’s sales director Giorgio Iovino said in a media statement.

Niel Schoeman, CEO of Vumatel explained that at its current pace, the company has added around 2 000 homes to the network a month and is “still ramping up delivery thereof.”

He said: “We are in discussions with new suburbs every day. Based on demand we will need to make services available to a further 100 000 homes next year. This demand has resulted in us making a decision to release new areas on our portal so residents can show their support.”

Apart from adding more homes to the ever-growing network, Vumatel also announced that ISP XDSL will join Vumatel’s open access network.

“We are pleased to announce our exciting range of FTTH product offerings across the Vumatel network and are confident that the end consumer will appreciate these new offerings as being superior to broadband offerings provided over legacy infrastructure,” said Marius Olivier, the commercial head over at XDSL.
