MTN will refund 400 000 customers who experienced network issues

[UPDATE: MTN has said it will refund those who bought one-day data bundles on Sunday and Monday with a 1GB data bundle]

MTN has good news for some customers who were left frustrated after various connectivity issues that began as early as Sunday afternoon and continued into Monday.

The mobile network says it will refund 400 000 of the one million customers that were affected by the outage, resulting in issues with calls, SMS and mobile internet services.

According to Chris Maroleng, an MTN executive for group corporate affairs who spoke to Fin24, customers who purchased airtime, SMS bundles or data bundles (including one-day bundles) during the outage period but could not use them for over 24 hours, qualify for a refund.

Before refunds are processed however, MTN said it first needs to determine how many of the one million were actually affected. The company said it’s in the early stages of completing this process.

There is no further clarification however as to how the network will do this and what differentiates a certain number of those affected from the original one million the number had indicated.

MTN also did not say when they would be processing the refunds or how much money would be refunded.
