Gauteng Education closes online admissions

The Gauteng Department of Education has officially closed applications for children going to grade one and eight in 2017.

The deadline for early applications was 1st June and the cut off date for late applications was yesterday.

The department has emphasised that no walk-in applications and applications sent in January will be accepted at any school.

Department spokesperson, Oupa Bodibe, told htxt.africa that the Admissions site would still be up online but only for those who still have to confirm offers. The site will not be processing any new applications.

By 22nd November, the department had received 73 427 late applications altogether.

The department is now tasked with finalising the enrolment processes and the districts will continue to assist parents with placements where space may still be available.

Most late applications will be placed at a school where there is space available and this might not be close to where their parents work or reside as priority has been given to those who applied on time.

The department’s offices will remain open through the festive season and will only close on public holidays.
