A Nintendo Switch blade has finally been created

Ever since the official name of the Nintendo Switch was announced, the “switch blade” joke has been doing the rounds, and now we have a physical object to match it.

Thingiverse user ThatDummGuy is to thank for this creation, which is a 3D printed shell modelled after a right Joy-Con with a plastic blade hidden inside.

Creating this model in 3D Builder took around two hours and printing took six more hours on top of that

There’s no mechanism in this version of the print to pop the blade, so it simply swings out with a flick of the wrist. You can see how it works in the video below.

Speaking of that blade it’s been painted a bright blue, not to contrast with the red Joy-Con, but to show that this is a toy and not a real knife.

To make your own Nintendo Switch blade, start with the files available for free over on Thingiverse.

You can make the print any size you like, but this version is ten centimetres long with the blade extended and looks very close to the size of a real Joy-Con.

We hope the next stage in this idea is one made to console quality where it can attach to an actual Switch and be passed off as a regular controller.
