Eskom will implement Stage 2 loadshedding for Thursday

Wednesday night marked the first night Eskom didn’t need to implement loadshedding overnight but we are not saying goodbye to loadshedding just yet.

Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented on Thursday from 09:00 until 23:00.

The utility said that good progress had been made to turn the situation around and additional generating units had returned to service.

“Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented for 09h00 to 23h00 on Thursday, as breakdowns are still above 9 500MW,” Eskom said in a power alert on Wednesday.

Following word from President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday, Eskom now has just five days to address the shortfalls of its system and insure that loadshedding doesn’t take place until 13th January. The President promised in a media briefing that there would be no loadshedding over the festive period starting on 17th December.

Number one also cancelled all leave at Eskom and told executives and management to remain in place so as to address the energy crisis the country currently faces.

Whether Eskom will be able to keep the lights on over the festive season is questionable what with the system seemingly teetering on the brink of collapse.

For now we expect Stage 2 loadshedding to be with us for the foreseeable future.

We advise our readers to check their schedules so as to prepare for the power cuts expected to start a bit later today.
