Ultraman to crossover with mech fighting game Override 2

Well here’s a bit of surprise news: the popular Ultraman franchise will be crossing over with Override 2: Super Mech League when the game launches in December 2020.

As a quick recap Override is a 3D fighting game which debuted its first game Mech City Brawl in 2018. A sequel subtitled Super Mech League was announced back in August and a “special crossover” was teased for reveal at  at a later date.

While we were hoping for something involving Pacific Rim, Ultraman is Japanese royalty and one of the most iconic franchises in the kaiju genre and it fits in perfectly with the giant robot action of Override.

Right now it seems that this crossover content is being locked behind the “Ultraman Deluxe Edition”. This includes the base game, a season pass and the four Ultraman playable fighters which are:

  • Shinjiro Hayata (Ultraman)
  • Bemular
  • Dan Moroboshi (Ultraman Suit ver7)
  • Black King

The appearance of these characters seems to be based off of the 2019 of the Netflix anime.

“Pre-orders are now available for $39.99 at retail ahead of a December 2020 launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch. To celebrate this illustrious collaboration, consumers can save $5 on Amazon when pre-ordering,” reads an announcement for this new content.

For those who want to give the game a try before parting with any money, a closed beta is planned for the future ahead of launch. If you’d like to give it a try head on over to the official Override website and click on the “join the beta” button. Leave your details and you should be alerted when the beta goes live.

When we reviewed reviewed the first game in this series (see below) we really enjoyed the core combat but found it lacking in every other area. Hopefully developer Modus has spent the last couple of years improving things.
