Some FNB customers can replace a lost or stolen card at Shoprite and Checkers

Replacing your bank card with FNB is already easy, but the bank has been exploring even more ways to get customers their plastic.

To that end FNB has today announced that Easy Pay As You Use and Smart Option account holders can replace a lost or stolen bank card at over 700 Shoprite and Checkers stores across the country.

While FNB has been on a push to make digital solutions the first choice for its customers, having a bank card is still important, at least for now.

Earlier this year FNB started testing its virtual card solution which is, as the name suggests, a virtual card linked to your bank account. While it is a secure means of payment, there is still a need for a physical card as many merchants don’t support contactless solutions.

As for the Shoprite Group, this announcement further solidifies the partnership between it and FNB. As you may be aware, FNB customers can earn and spend eBucks at Shoprite and Checkers stores.

“This partnership with FNB is the latest of a number of financial services innovations, products and services introduced by the Shoprite Group in line with our aim of making basic banking functionalities accessible and convenient, and to better serve our customers,” general manager of financial services for Shoprite Group, Jean Olivier said in a statement.

FNB says that the ability to replace a card at a Shoprite or Checkers is another way it hopes to make banking more convenient for its customers.

“The ability to replace a lost or stolen card in-store will provide our customers with much-needed convenience at a point of sale where they do their day-to-day shopping. We also recommend that customers use our digital banking channels such as App to temporarily block or cancel their lost or stolen cards,” said FNB Easy chief executive officer, Philani Potwana.
