100 000 FNB customers have signed up for Apple Pay

Whether you love or hate Apple, one can’t deny that the Cupertino firm’s customers are perhaps the most ardent of any brand.

Case in point – since launching Apple Pay on its platform last week, FNB says over 100 000 customers have signed up for the digital payment option.

To put this into perspective, FNB says that it has over 300 000 FNB Virtual Cards on its platform since it launched in June 2020. It took FNB until February of this year to reach the same amount of customers that Apple took a week to reach.

“We are delighted with the positive response from our Retail and Commercial customers who were quick to set up Apple Pay and have already made safe and secure payments. We continue to accelerate efforts to diversify our digital payments ecosystem to provide a convenient and secure experience across all our payments solutions,” writes chief executive officer at FNB Card, Chris Labuschagne.

This is astonishing and 100 000 sign-ups in a week is just the beginning. FNB says that there are as many as 700 000 Apple Pay compatible devices used by its customers so we expect to see even more take-ups in the near future.

To set up Apple Pay on an iPhone using the FNB App, select Cards, choose to create a new Virtual Card specifically for Apple Pay or alternatively select an existing Virtual Card, then select Add to Apple Wallet and follow the instructions.

FNB customers can also use Apple Pay on iPhone, iPad and Mac to make faster and more convenient purchases in apps or on the web without having to create accounts or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information.
