ASUS ROG crammed a 16inch display into a 15inch notebook

ASUS has announced that its latest Republic of Gamers notebook, the Zephyrus M16, is now available in South Africa.

The highlight of this notebook is it’s display. The resolution seems odd at 2560 x 1600 but that’s not where the strangeness stops. The display itself measures 16inches but ASUS has managed to squeeze this into a 15inch chassis.

To do this ASUS has shaved the bezels of the Zephyrus M16 down to just 4.6mm.

“Ultra-narrow bezels measure only 4.6mm on all four sides, thanks to a redesigned display cable that allows the bottom bezel to be as slim as the others. Altogether, this design delivers an immersive 94% screen-to-body ratio,” ASUS ROG explained in a press release.

The display features a 165Hz refresh rate and as you might’ve guessed from the odd resolution, it has a 16:10 aspect ratio.

As for internals the CPU here is Intel’s Core i9-11900H clocked to 4.9GHz. This can be paired with up to 48GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and up to 2TB of NVME PCIe 4.0 SSD storage although there is a second NVME slot for storage expansion.

Driving the display will be an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU which according to Notebook Check should yield performance akin to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super Mobile.

There is also an iteration of the Zephyrus M16 which features an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050ti.

ASUS also says it approached cooling for this notebook with both performance and acoustics in mind.

“Exotic liquid metal thermal compound, applied with ROG’s patented process, reduces CPU temperatures up to 10°C compared to traditional thermal paste. Six heatpipes transfer heat away from the CPU and GPU to dense heatsinks in the flanks, where it’s pushed out by airflow from dual Arc Flow fans. This new fan design has 84 carefully tapered blades with a special aerodynamic wave pattern on the outer edge that reduces turbulence, enabling more airflow with less noise,” the manufacturer explains.

The notebook will also be completely silent when temperatures are below 50°C.

As for price, gird your loins because the ROG Zephyrus M16 has a big price tag.

Prices start at R33 999 for the ROG Zephyrus M16 configured with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050ti while the iteration with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU starts at R47 999.

As mentioned the ROG Zephyrus M16 is available in South Africa from today and you can shop for the notebook through Evetech.
