As we reach the midway point of the week, as has been the case of late, the number of infections and deaths related to COVID-19 in South Africa has picked up.
According to the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH), it is the figures surrounding fatalities that is of particular concern, with 369 recorded in the past 24 hours. The death toll to date has since risen to 79 953, placing an even greater emphasis on the current vaccination efforts, which have only recently picked up steam.
As for infections, 10 346 have been reported by the NDoH, which is a sizeable uptick since yesterday. The total number of cases in SA so far now sits at 2 708 951, with over 16.09 million tests conducted and the recovery rate increasing slightly to 91 percent.
Looking at the latest vaccination figures, the past 24 hours has seen 266 988 jabs administered, which is very promising compared to previous weeks.
As of 17:00 on 24th August, 11 076 106 vaccinations have been administered, with an estimated 5 141 248 people inoculated at this stage.
