Enemy faction ‘Klaue Company’ arrives with War for Wakanda

One of the many problems with Marvel’s Avengers was a supreme lack of variety when it came to enemies, with humans and robots from AIM being all there was to fight. With the upcoming expansion to the game, War for Wakanda, a new faction called Klaue Company comes into the fray.

As shown off multiple times for this expansion War for Wakanda will have Ulysses Klaue as the main antagonist. He won’t be challenging the Avengers and the Black Panther on his own as the Klaue Company is an army of mercenaries that will be backing him up.

Combat Designer for Marvel’s Avengers, Matt Guido, also used the reveal of the faction to talk about new status effects called Sonic and Vibranium.

In an effort to make the new Sonic/Vibranium gear more unique and meaningful, we decided to incorporate weaknesses to these new status effects across the roster.

“As you encounter the Klaue Company mercs, you’ll find that some of them are Corrupted Vibranium-themed, and others are Sonic themed,” Guido writes.

These two themes will affect how these enemies behave in combat and how players can interact with them. In the gallery below you can see the Brusier, the heavy attacker with a huge hammer, as a Corrupted Vibranium variant after successfully damaging players. The Strategist, which focuses on drones, can use a Sonic Aura to protect itself.

Sonic gear has an easier time beating Vibranium enemies, and Vibranium gear does the same against Sonic enemies.

It’s a simple enough system, but, as we discussed in our launch review of Marvel’s Avengers, most of the fights in this game very quickly devolve into button mashing and spamming your big attacks. Even if these enemies have resistances to certain attacks powering through them may still be a viable option.

“There are more new enemy types coming in the expansion, but I’ll stop here to save some surprises for the launch. I hope you enjoyed this peek into some of the new threats that await you in the War for Wakanda Expansion, which is a free update for owners of the game! Thanks for reading, and I’m looking forward to seeing all your reactions to the new enemies!” Guido adds.

War for Wakanda releases on 17th August as a free expansion to the game. It’s been a disappointing launch and post-release cycle for Marvel’s Avengers so far so there’s a lot riding on this expansion to improve things.
