Netflix has confirmed that spatial audio functionality is rolling out to compatible iPhone and iPad devices. According to 9to5Mac, the feature should be available in the coming weeks, if not available already depending on the region you’re in.

If you own a compatible iPhone or iPad, namely an iOS/iPadOS 14 one that can support Apple Music, getting to experience spatial audio still requires additional hardware. This as the feature is only supported by the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max (seen in header image) for now.

This also should not be confused with lossless audio, which neither of the aforementioned Apple accessories support at this stage.

For those unfamiliar with spatial audio, it was rolled out by Apple to its Music app earlier in the year alongside lossless audio.

“Apple is bringing Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos to Apple Music. Dolby Atmos is a revolutionary, immersive audio experience that enables artists to mix music so the sound comes from all around and from above,” explained the company in a blog post.

“Apple Music will be adding new Dolby Atmos tracks constantly and will be curating a special set of Dolby Atmos playlists to help listeners find the music they love. In addition, albums that are available in Dolby Atmos will have a badge on the detail page for easy discovery,” it added at the time.

For now, it is unclear how the interface will work for Netflix, but the spatial audio function can be toggled on within the Command Center in iOS/iPadOS 14.

Those interested in the experience, should be on the lookout for a spatial audio logo marker within the Netflix app, however, it may take some time, with the company noting that this would be a slower rollout than normal.

This likely won’t boost sales of the AirPods Pro or Max, but should be a nice feature for those who have access to it.
