Price and availability for the Galaxy Z Fold3 & Flip3 in SA

This evening Samsung debuted two new foldable phones – the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. The new iterations are not wholly unexpected, with the company confirming plans to debut foldable hardware at its latest Unpacked event, along with designs to make mobile devices with flexible displays mainstream.

We are not at that point yet, but it is clear that Samsung is still pushing forward with its foldable phone project.

As with past iterations we’ve seen, these new devices do not come cheap, with the Fold3 5G costing $1 799.99 and the Flip3 5G starting at $999.99. During the Unpacked event, the local availability and pricing were unknown, but now Samsung Mobile South Africa has confirmed details for both devices.

To that end, both devices will be made available for pre-order come 1st September, with local consumers being able to register their interest until 16th September. Thereafter, from 17th September onwards, both devices will be available to purchase in SA, depending on stock availability.

As for the specific recommended pricing, the Fold3 5G starts at R39 999 and the Flip3 5G will start at R29 999.

It remains to be seen what bundling options will be made available, but we have confirmed that neither of these foldables will feature a charger in the box, which will need to be purchases separately if a consumer is new to the Samsung ecosystem.

Those eyeing the newly designed S Pen for the Fold3 5G will also need to purchase that separately, but precise cost has not been disclosed yet.

For customers wanting to go through their network to pick up the foldable phones, Samsung Mobile South Africa says 24 and 36-month long contracts should be made available depending on the network.

Pricing on this front may vary, with the 24-month and 36-month options for the Fold3 5G recommended at R1 699 and R1 299 respectively. The Flip3 5G should carry a cost of R999 for 24-month contracts and R699 for 36-month ones.

For now, there is no information on what deals and bundles each network or retailer will be making available, but the above should give those interested in either Galaxy Z models an idea of how much it will cost.
