The original trailer that announced Metroid Dread to the world did a great job as hype around it has continued for months and it made the game the most pre-ordered title from E3, so let’s do it again.
This second trailer – named simply “Trailer 2” – shows Samus in an older suit and not the red and blue Power Suit that has been used in most of the game’s marketing.
Like the first announcement trailer this new one is a mix of Samus showing off her abilities while in the game combined with actual gameplay so we can see how that looks before we can actually play.
“The new trailer shows Samus under attack from a mysterious opponent soon after she lands on planet ZDR – and that mysterious figure appears to be a Chozo. The Chozo were a highly intelligent and technologically advanced species who believed their purpose to be that of bringing peace throughout the galaxy. Eventually, the civilization reached a breaking point, and living Chozo are now rarely seen. Who is this Chozo warrior, and why do they attack Samus so fiercely?” reads a press release sent to us.
Outside of the trailer we can learn a bit more in the most recent “Metroid Dread Report“, a a recurring series of official blog posts about the game.
The report confirms that this is the first time in the history of the series that a living Chozo will actually appear. The species has been a part of the series for so long that this will be a nice change of pace.
A big focus of the trailer is also a showcase of new a returning abilities that players will have access to. A full list of those abilities, as provided by the developers, is as follows:
- Flash Shift (Aeion Ability)
- Pulse Radar (Aeion Ability)
- Grapple Beam
- Ice Missile
- Storm Missile
- Cross Bomb
- Speed Boster
- Shinespark
- Screw Attack
The developers also highlight how there’s a bigger focus on abilities that are needed for traversal and using combinations of them.
‘For example, you can use Speed Booster in combination with wall jumping and sliding. The places where you can do this may surprise you, and we hope you try lots of different things on your adventure,” the report reads.
Metroid Dread is planned for release on 8th October exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
