The Xbox Stereo Headset should cost R1199 when it lands locally

Yesterday Microsoft revealed in a new gaming peripheral in the form of the Xbox Stereo Headset.

As the name implies, this latest offering is a wired alternative to the brand’s wireless option and potentially a choice for those who cannot afford the more expensive headset sans cord or simply prefer this kind of setup to a wireless one.

While it may look relatively clean and simple, Microsoft did lean on one of its design partners – Bang & Olufsen – to bring this peripheral to fruition. As we’re big fans of the Danish company’s hardware, this new device looks promising.

In terms of what features and functionality have been imbued into this headset, Xbox says this wired model supports high fidelity audio technologies like Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone: X. As such it could prove useful for enjoying spatial audio content outside of gaming titles.

Xbox does not go into detail in terms of what frequency is on offer for the Stereo Headset, but does say it should perform ably.

“To generate the best possible experience across gaming, team chat, music, and movies, the team tuned the headset to replicate the intended audio recording source that the creators wanted you to experience. The result of this is hearing the audio as close as possible to how it was recorded, by ensuring clean mid & high frequency performance with strong bass,” reads the Xbox Wire blog post about the device.

Designed as an offering for entry-level gaming experiences, according to Microsoft, the new Xbox Stereo Headset is already up for pre-order Stateside at $59.99. It does not feature on the local Microsoft Store yet, but when it does, should carry a recommended price tag of R1 199.

The Xbox Stereo Headset will also be carried by many local retailers. Precisely when that will be, however, is still to be confirmed.
