Twitch makes suspension notices a bit clearer

Streamers over on Twitch will now be able to identify content which has earned them a suspension a bit more easily.

As of Monday, streamers who receive a suspension will now be able to see the name of the content and the date of the violation with their enforcement notification.

This should make it easier to remove content but there is a problem here.

In the notice above, the streamer was suspended for “spamming violative video content” which is explained by way of two poorly chosen examples. It is then up to the streamer to pick through their entire stream in order to find out what they did wrong, if the VOD of the stream is still available as Twitch could decide to remove it.

This presents a problem for streamers as they might have to determine on their own whether the music they were listening to, the game, the music in the game or whether what they said caused the problem.

Many streamers have described this update as the bare minimum and that it should’ve been implemented years ago.

This was highlighted late last year when DMCA notices accompanied the removal of content by Twitch.

At least Twitch is doing something, miniscule as it might be, to help streamers identify streams which may have violated Twitch’s terms of service.

Hopefully this is the first of many improvements coming to Twitch that will help streamers. After all, it’s hard to obey the rules if it’s not clear what rules you’re breaking and how you’re breaking them.
