The country has reached the end of the another month under lockdown, but the coming days will prove more critical than most when it comes to fighting the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa.
This as the first group of people to receive their jabs after the 18 and older age bracket became eligible, will be able to receive their second vaccinations, with it being six weeks since Cabinet made the decision.
To that end, we should hopefully see a stronger turnout at vaccination sites across the country.
According to the latest figures on the matter from the National Department of Health (NDoH), the past 24 hours has seen 169 818 vaccines administered, which is significantly less than the 250k-plus we saw only a couple of weeks ago.
As of 17:00 on 29th September, 17 349 100 vaccines have been administered in total, with an estimated 8 719 336 people inoculated at this stage. There is therefore still plenty of work to be done before South Africa reaches population immunity.
Looking at the latest report from the NDoH on the spread of the virus, 2 106 new cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours, with the total number of infections recorded to date now sitting at 2 900 994.
The NDoH also confirms that 108 fatalities have been reported, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa climbs to 87 525.
