Trading cards & new achievements come to 3DMark

When you think of tools and utilities for your PC earning Steam trading cards and achievements aren’t what come to mind, but 3DMark has been updated with them anyway.

The v2.20.7274 update to the game on Steam adds in 17 new achievements as well as trading cards and a variety of other small cosmetic items to use throughout Steam. Profile backgrounds, badges and emoticons can now all be had with the 3DMark branding.

These can be bought in the Steam Points Shop right here. Profile backgrounds are 500 points while emoticons cost 100.

If you, like us, are wondering how you use a benchmark to unlock achievements, there is an explanation.

“Our new achievements reward you for a variety of feats, from setting a legendary score and keeping your components cool to exploring our DirectX 12 Ultimate feature tests and experimenting with custom benchmark settings. We’ve updated some of the older achievements so they can be unlocked with our newer benchmarks and tests. Lastly, based on your feedback, we’ve removed a few achievements that were either excessively difficult or incompatible with modern hardware trends,” the update reads.

Completing these achievements seem bound to your hardware which we could complain about but at least people know what they’re getting into here.

This update brings with it six trading cards which you can see in the header image above. These represent the characters used in the tool’s benchmarking suite.

Finally it’s worth mentioning an oddity with the way 3DMark is represented on Steam. If you’re trying to download just one benchmark, which are all marked as free and seem to be accessible, well you can’t unless you own the software.

To get access to the free tools instead go to the main store page for 3DMark and click on “download demo” in the right hand column.

This had us a bit turned around for a while so hopefully this saves people some time. having a

Those who want to buy 3DMark, or any game on Steam really, should wait for the next edition of the Steam Fest sale which begins this week on 1st October.
