Aliens: Fireteam Elite has gas in the tank with a year one roadmap

After reviewing Aliens: Fireteam Elite earlier this year we kind of just forgot it about it with no plans to download it again, but developer and co-publisher Cold Iron Studios seem to be dedicating at least another year to it thanks to the reveal of a year one roadmap.

“You can look forward to Season 2 before the end of the year! With it we will introduce a New Game Mode, as well as a New Feature, Weapons, Attachments, Challenge Cards, and a variety of cosmetics! If you enjoyed Horde Mode then we’re sure you will enjoy our next new game modes. You can expect twists to the session length, goals, and the tools you will have available, as well as the cool new environments they will be set in,” the studio writes.

The first season of content, subtitled Phalanx, launched with a decent chunk of new elements that was made doubly impressive by the fact that it’s free.

It seems that same level of content and quality will continue for the foreseeable future when looking at the roadmap:

The studio also emphasises quality of life improvements coming to the game, something we appreciate more than new content as the game was bogged down in dozens of small issues when we played at launch.

Shoring up these issues – such as wonky progression, weird gun aiming, a strange difficulty curve and more – would go a long way towards getting new players in and convincing old players to return.

As “old players” we’re happy to see this happening but we’re not sure if we’re too convinced for a reinstall. It’s not that we didn’t have fun with the game, because we did, it just doesn’t seem like the type of title that you return to after playing through it once.

We’re happy to be proven wrong and we will need to see how a year of post-launch development can change this game.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
