As we prepare for a weekend with Stage 1 loadshedding, there is still the issue of COVID-19 in South Africa. This as both cases and fatalities have picked up slightly over the past 24 hours.
There is no spike, but the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH), confirms that 585 infections have been reported.
While this is nowhere near the numbers we saw exiting the third wave of infections, with a fourth wave predicted to hit the country during the upcoming festive season, each new report will be looked at with increasing scrutiny.
Consequently, the total number of infections recorded to date now sits at 2 927 499. The department also confirms that 40 fatalities have been recorded as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa rises to 89 555.
Looking at the other figures, the recovery has dropped slightly to 96.3 percent, while more than 19.03 million tests have been conducted locally to date.
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 125 868 jabs administered.
As of 17:00 on 18th November, a total of 24 471 210 vaccines have been administered in SA, with an estimated 13 758 743 people are fully vaccinated at this stage, which means we are still well behind target for the year’s end.
