The past week saw the spectre of stage 2 loadshedding loom large. This week it returns, continuing until Saturday morning, according to Eskom, which means COVID-19 in South Africa will be overshadowed by our failing power utility.
While it remains to be seen whether higher levels of loadshedding will need to be implemented, the past 24 hours has seen numbers related to the spread of the virus remain relatively low.
This is of course off the back of the weekend, so we’ll need to wait to see what the coming days hold. For now though, the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that 205 cases and 13 fatalities have been recorded.
This sees the total number of infections recorded to date climb to 2 923 956, while the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has reached 89 332.
Other key figures see the recovery rate increase by a point of a percentage to 96.4 percent, while over 18.72 million tests have been conducted to date.
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 10 930 jabs administered, owing to it being a Sunday. As of 17:00 on 7th November, a total of 23 151 823 vaccines have been administered, with an estimated 12 855 692 people fully vaccinated at this stage.
