Forza Horizon 5 preloads now available everywhere

Recently Forza Horizon 5 went gold and preloading of the game opened up Xbox and the Microsoft Store for PC and now, with only a couple of days before release, the same functionality has come to Steam.

No matter where you own Forza Horizon 5 or which of its three editions you bought, preloading is now available with the following storage space requirements:

  • Xbox Series X|S: 103 GB
  • Xbox One: 116 GB
  • Windows: 103 GB
  • Steam: 103 GB

It’s not too surprising to see that the two PC platforms here have the same size but what is strange is the previous generation Xbox One and its port being the largest here.

No real explanation for this is provided with the announcement simply making mention of the Series X|S.

“With the high-speed internal SSD storage found on Xbox Series X|S consoles, we’ve reduced the install footprint of Forza Horizon 5 on those systems by optimizing our assets for higher bandwidth streaming. That means a shorter download combined with super-fast loading times so you can seamlessly jump into the action as soon as you say ‘Let’s ¡Go!’,” the announcement reads.

Those wanting to play the game should get used to this large size, however, as the Forza series is rather infamous for eating up a decent chunk of drives. We played countless hours of Forza Horizon 4 and we just had to deal with not only the huge initial install size but also the substantial updates which sometimes happen every week.

While preloading is usually reserved for those who own a game digitally, there is an option here for physical game buyers.

“Those buying Forza Horizon 5 on disc may also preload the game today using the Xbox app on smartphones. Simply find Forza Horizon 5 in the Store and hit ‘Download to Console’ to get started,” the instructions read.

Forza Horizon 5 launches on 9th November. Those with early access to the game through the Premium Edition can start playing from 5th November instead.
