Kaspersky’s Endpoint Security Cloud can detect sensitive info in documents

There is a rather interesting feature within Kaspersky’s Endpoint Security Cloud product that may help you keep a better handle on sensitive information within your organisation.

The latest version of the product includes the ability to detect personal information or bank card details stored in Microsoft 365 applications. This feature is known as Data Discovery.

Why would you need to know that? According to Kaspersky’s own research, personally identifiable information is involved in 43 percent of breaches. Furthermore. as many as 15 percent of files stored in cloud services contain sensitive information and are shared with somebody outside of the company.

As such, being able to detect where sensitive information is stored is important for security teams.

To be clear, Kaspersky’s Data Discovery isn’t changing your documents, nor is it taking a copy and placing it on its servers. Rather, Kaspersky’s product is scanning your Microsoft environment and generating a report.

This is rather valuable especially for SMEs, which Kaspersky is hoping to attract to this product. This does make sense as it means a business doesn’t need to hire a full security team to police the halls of the business.

“Data discovery and other Kaspersky Endpoint Security Cloud capabilities go far beyond standard endpoint protection to include the prevention of data breaches, cloud application management and policy control. But the product makes the process simple and effective, which is so important for small and medium-sized companies. That means they can improve the overall level of security and awareness within their organisation. From a business perspective, such strong control over sensitive data can give companies an advantage in customer relations and business reputation,” explains senior product marketing manager at Kaspersky, Andrey Dankevich.

The Data Discovery feature is only included in Kaspersky Endpoint Security Cloud Plus and pricing is based on how many users you have.
