Netflix has a global Top 10 site that will be updated every Tuesday

Netflix has announced a new website that will feature the Top 10 movies and series on the streaming platform globally, with it being updated each week to reflect what viewers the world over are enjoying at the moment.

Given the exhaustive and ever-changing catalogue of content available on Netflix, having a site like this makes a lot of sense, especially as it opens up the opportunity to enjoy shows like Squid Game, which became a bit of a cultural phenomenon earlier this year.

We are also hoping that it opens up avenues for locally created content to shine too, with Blood and water being one SA-made series that could benefit from a little spotlight.

“Figuring out how best to measure success in streaming is hard, and there’s no one perfect metric. Traditional measures like box office or share of audience (which was designed to help advertisers understand success on linear TV) aren’t relevant to most streamers, including Netflix,” explained Pablo Perez de Rosso, VP of content strategy, planning and analysis, in a press statement.

“Having looked at the different options, we believe engagement, as measured by hours viewed, is a strong indicator of a title’s popularity, as well as overall member satisfaction, which is important for retention in subscription services,” he added.

At the time of writing, there are four categories by which Top 10 are placed, with the top English and non-English lists for movies and series.

Looking at the lists right now, for the English section, Red Notice is the most watched movie on the platform over the past week, with 148.72 million hours.

The project starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot is leading the way by some margin, with the second placed English film, Love Hard, only racking up 58.56 million hours.

As for the non-English movies, an Italian film titled Yara is leading with 17.95 million hours.
