Telkom customers can now roam on MTN’s network

Here is some good news for Telkom customers – roaming is now enabled on MTN’s network.

This means that Telkom customers can now remain connected pretty much everywhere given that roaming on Vodacom’s network has been enabled since 2018.

Telkom customers can essentially make use of three different networks now with 2G, 3G and 4G all available when roaming on MTN and Vodacom’s network.

“The access to MTN South Africa’s 2G, 3G and 4G network adds coverage while reducing Telkom’s overall roaming costs,” said chief executive officer of Telkom Consumer, Lunga Siyo.

“The addition of a second roaming partner is well within our current roaming spend. We remain on course with our plan to progressively reduce our roaming costs over time,” Siyo added.

This roaming agreement with MTN is said to be a multi-year agreement so Telkom customers will be able to roam on the network for a long while which is great news.

“This agreement aligns with the Group’s strategy to monetise the investments it has made in networks and continue to build on the network as a service (NaaS) platform, where MTN SA is a key driver,” MTN said in a press release.
