Vivo Y33s available in SA this month for R6k

2021 is seemingly the year that multiple Chinese smartphone brands made their presence known in SA for having well specced and affordable phones. The latest to make its case ahead of the festive season is the Vivo Y33s.

This new device will be available locally this month, with Vivo South Africa confirming that it will be sold via Vodacom, MTN and other selected retailers.

The device will retail from R5 999 (RPP) or postpaid deals from R299 and R329 on both 24 and 36 month contracts respectively. That said, pricing may vary depending on the carrier, but those are the prices you can expect to pay for this new smartphone.

So what does the Vivo Y33s offer at R6k?

Well like many of its rivals, Vivo has prioritised the screen, camera and battery on this device. To that end it has a 6.58″ FullHD display up front which should offer plenty of screen real estate, along with a 16MP selfie camera housed in a teardrop-style screen notch.

As for the shooting options on the rear, a large 50MP sensor is the primary option and this is supported by a 2MP macro and 2MP bokeh lenses, which again is fairly standard these days in the affordable mid-range space, where manufacturers are able to deliver far more bang for your buck in terms of camera performance.

Lastly, for the battery a massive 5 000mAh unit is present, with support for 18W fast charging and depending on how the onboard software optimises performance, you should get a full day’s use and then some.

The Vivo Y33s will be sold locally in either the Midday Dream or Mirror Black colour options, both seen in the header image above.

Ticking most of the boxes we expect from a mid-range phone in 2021, it will be interesting to see how much weight Vivo throws behind this device given how competitive the SA market is currently.

Either way, local Android phone fans have a smorgasbord of options available to them at the moment, with the Vivo Y33s being the latest vying for attention.
