TikTok’s Discord server goes live

Earlier this week TikTok teased on Twitter that it would be launching a Discord server. We did not have to wait long for the social media platform to follow through, with it going live earlier today.

At the time of writing it has 1 117 members, and given the popularity of the application, has naturally already been verified with a green check mark.

As for the choice to create a Discord server, it looks like TikTok is simply aiming to expand its number of online communities for users to engage with one another and creators.

“This server’s just like your for you feed: it’s made for you, some of its comments are spicy, and your parents have no idea what it is,” the company explained in the welcome channel for the server.

There is also some general housekeeping that those interested in using the server should be aware of, such as no NSFW content, and hilariously no buying of crypto, although we are not sure whether the latter is an issue plaguing the fully fledged version of TikTok.

Added to this, anyone who wishes to chat will need to tick a check box to acknowledge that they are aware of the rules, which TechCrunch notes as a common tool employed by popular servers in a bid to discourage spam content.

The publication also says there are five moderators for the server, but should it rise in popularity and number of members, we should definitely see TikTok look to hire more to assist in moderating.

It will be interesting to see how the server flourishes on Discord over time. If it is anywhere near as popular as anything else TikTok has experimented with of late, the server could very quickly become a difficult place to be heard.
