We are now into the throws of the second month of 2022, but have not been able to shake off the effects of COVID-19 in South Africa and the fourth wave of infections.
While we are not seeing the same kind of numbers as we did with previous waves, daily infections and fatalities still remain relatively high.
To that end, the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) shows a rise in the key daily figures, with 4 502 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours and the total number of infections climbing to 3 612 809.
The department also notes that 175 fatalities have been reported too, with there no longer being an accompanying message with the report regarding an audit. As such, these latest figures should be up to date. Consequently, the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has risen to 95 463.
Other statistics in the report sees the recovery rate drop slightly to 95.8 percent, with 3 461 490 recoveries being recorded. The NDoH also says more than 22.34 million tests have been conducted to date.
As for the vaccine rollout, 69 930 jabs have been administered over the past 24 hours, as turnout to sites across the country continue to be poorer than desired. As of 17:00 on 2nd February 2022, a total of 30 031 894 vaccines have been administered.
