Eskom implements Stage 2 loadshedding until Monday

We had a long run but it ends today at 11:00 when Eskom implements Stage 2 loadshedding.

The power cuts will be in place from today through to 05:00 on Monday morning. The utility cites the breakdown of two generating units overnight and a lack of emergency generating reserves which were used up to offset generation losses at the weekend.

“A unit each at Kusile and Kendal power stations tripped. Delays in returning units at Kusile, Tutuka, Duvha, Lethabo and Grootvlei have also contributed to the supply constraints,” Eskom wrote in a power alert.

“Total breakdowns amount ot 14 994MW while planned maintenance is 4 435MW of capacity as we continue with the reliability maintenance. Three generating units are expected to return to service by this afternoon,” the utility added.

With loadshedding making a return we recommend checking your schedule using the EskomSePush app for Android or Apple iOS.

The utility will provide an update as regards the challenges it faces with its system later this morning. We don’t expect there to be good news to be found in that briefing especially with power cuts already on the cards.
