How to access next-gen version and transfer save file in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 has recently received its biggest update yet, which also comes with a new next-gen (or should that be current gen) version of the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Those who own the game on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One are eligible for a free upgrade.

Below are the details provided by CD Projekt Red about how to access this new version of the game.

PlayStation – Change to the next-gen version

“It is necessary to manually download the dedicated next-gen version of the game from either the PlayStation Store or your library. To update disc copies, players need a PlayStation 5 console with a disc drive and have it inserted in order to download and play the game.

While it’s possible to have both versions of the game on your PlayStation 5, we suggest deleting the PlayStation 4 version to save disk space.”

PlayStation – Transfer your save file

If you are playing the PlayStation 4 version of the game, you will be able to select one save file to upload to the cloud. Once you launch the PlayStation 5 version, you will then be able to download it. This method allows you to transfer between different devices, doesn’t require a PlayStation Plus subscription and only one save file is supported.

If you are playing on a PlayStation 5 console via backwards compatibility, once you download the next-gen version of the game, your PlayStation 5 will automatically read your save files.

Xbox – Change to the next-gen version

Simply update your game to patch 1.5 on your Xbox Series X|S to receive the dedicated next-gen features.

You can set up your console to automatically download updates as soon as they become available using these instructions.

Xbox – Transfer your save file

Smart Delivery allows you to continue playing the game on Xbox Series X/S from where you’ve left off on the Xbox One.

Make sure you are connected to the internet so your saved data is uploaded to the cloud or connect both your Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S to the same network and use the system network transfer option.

The next-gen update, patch 1.5 and what it means for players

Patch 1.5 is rather expensive with patch notes – available here – stretching on for thousands of words.

Outside of bug fixes and improvements, the main selling points of this patch and the next gen update has been summarised by CD Projekt Red into the table which you can view above.

Every version of the game can now enjoy the new weapons, apartments, hairdressing mirror and changes to the gameplay.

Unfortunately certain other features like ray traced shadows and visual improvements are locked out for the previous gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The PlayStation 5 also solely enjoys the new controller features made for the DuelSense controller.

Alternatively those on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can try it for free thanks to a new trial that allows up to five hours of gameplay until 15th March.
