Set yourself a reminder from Valve for Steam Next Fest this February

The Steam Next Fest events have been receiving a massive push from Valve since its inception a couple of years ago and this continues in 2022 as another edition arrives on 21st February.

Valve wants as many people to partake in the combination sale and demo access Next Fest, so it has set up a reminder function on Steam.

Anyone who visits their News Hub – itself a new feature from late 2020 – will see the Next Fest appear right at the top of your feed under the “coming soon” header.

“A celebration of upcoming games, featuring demos, livestreams and more. Announcing Steam Next Fest, a multi-day celebration of upcoming games. Save the date for our Next Fest, headed to Steam in February. Explore and play hundreds of game demos, watch developer livestreams, and chat with the teams about their games in progress, coming soon to Steam,” the message reads.

Logged in users are given the option to be sent a reminder by way of the Steam mobile app or by email. There’s also the option to add it to your calendar by way of Outlook, Google or Apple.

Why Valve is pushing the various editions of Next Fest is easy to see when you read this wrap-up they provided for one of them in August 2021. The big number from this report was a 421 percent increase to wishlist additions during the event.

Wishlisting is rather important in the Steam ecosystem as doing so allows Valve to push notifications to users when wishlisted games launch or go on sale, which may push users towards purchases.

Wishlisting has become even more important ever since Valve killed limited-time sales on Steam. Instead of waiting for these sales to pop up, the smartest way to shop in the latest sales have simply been to visit your own wishlist and sort it by percent discount or lowest price.
