There’s an entire TCG expansion based on Pokémon Go coming

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) and Pokémon Go are crossing over for a special expansion in 2022.

Right now very little is known about the expansion aside from a super quick six second trailer (see below) and this explanation of the event from the official Pokémon website.

“This summer, Pokémon fans will enjoy an exciting collaboration between the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon GO with the release of a new Pokémon TCG expansion themed after the popular mobile game. Check out this teaser trailer to get your first peek at what’s in store when these two games collide later this year.”

Once again we loathe the fact that American products use the seasons to announce release dates. The US Summer is between late June and late September.

Pokémon news site PokéBeach, a rock solid source when it comes to all news about the franchise, has provided a definitive date of 17th June for the expansion in Japan.

Most Pokémon TCG products are released in Japan first and then the rest of the world later, so this makes sense.

Those experiencing a bit of déjà vu right now are not out of line. This is because the TCG and the Go app have crossed over before.

As we covered in March 2021 the TCG received a card based on Professor Willow. This card was unique as it came printed with a unique code which would unlock content in Go.

This card is actually still legal for use in the competitive side of the TCG.

Going from a single promotional card to an entire expansion is a big step and we’re excited to see more of this as it’s slowly revealed leading up to June.
