Acer Swift 5 breaks cover sporting 12th Gen Intel chips for 2022

As it routinely does, Acer has refreshed its Swift notebook lineup for 2022. To that end, South Africa will be getting a new Acer Swift 5 and Swift 3 by the middle of the year, but it is the former that has our attention at the moment.

This 14″ (2560×1600) notebook has quite a bit of Intel hardware, with 12th Gen Intel Core processors featuring up to 12 cores and Iris Xe graphics featuring here. The same goes for the Swift 3, but it is the Swift 5 that is the more powerfully specced of the two devices.

Along with being a loyal Intel OEM, Acer has retained several of the hallmarks of its Swift notebooks, including a lightweight aluminium chassis that tips the scale at 1.2kg and measures a svelte 14.95 mm.

While it remains to be seen what precise local configurations will be made available by Acer, the Swift 5 can be fitted with 16 GB of dual-channel LPDDR5 memory and up to 2 TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage.

This Intel Evo certified device also features up to 10 hours of battery life and fast charging function that yields four hours of battery life from 30 minutes of charging when you’re in a pinch.

Shifting back to the display, a 92.22 percent screen-to-body ratio is present and this screen has an antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass coating, which is a nice addition given the current climate we live in these days.

Sticking with features brought about by the pandemic, the Swift 5 is also geared towards video conferencing with a FullHD MIPI webcam up front and AI-assisted noise cancellation built into the notebook. Added to this is WiFi 6E connectivity and a reworked cooling system to better handle long sessions while powered on.

Both the Acer Swift 5 and Swift 3 are expected in South Africa in June, with recommended pricing starting at R19 999 and R16 999 respectively.
