This past weekend we passed the two year anniversary of lockdown being imposed in the country and, as we reach the end of March, it looks like life in this current state is set to continue as we fight the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa.
We should have a better idea of what system will in place to help control matters after 16th April, when public comment on the national state of emergency must be submitted.
For now, the past few weeks have seen the numbers related to the COVID-19 in South Africa remain relatively low. It looks like this week will be much the same, if the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) is anything to go by.
This as the past 24 hours has seen 989 new cases recorded, as the total number of infections to date has since climbed to 3 713 252. The department also notes that one fatality has been reported, with the death toll related to the virus locally sitting at 99 966.
Other key figures in the report sees the recovery rate stick at 96.9 percent, with more than 23.74 million tests having been conducted so far.
As for the vaccine rollout, which remains a priority ahead of a fifth wave of infections predicted for next month, the past 24 hours has seen 4 759 jabs administered owing to it being a Sunday. As of 17:00 on 27th March 2022, a total of 33 405 701 vaccines have been administered to date.
