Original story
South Africans will be thrust into darkness once again as Eskom has announced that Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 21:00 on Monday until 05:00 on Tuesday.
We don’t put much faith in this, however, as Eskom added a note that “Loadshedding might be required at short notice” should any more generation capacity become impaired.
On that, a unit each at Matla, Kendal, Matimba, Kusile and Grootveli power stations has tripped while a shut down was forced at Arnot and Hendrina power stations.
“This, in addition to other units that had tripped during the weekend, reduced available generation capacity, forcing Eskom to rely heavily on emergency generation reserves to keep the lights on,” the utility said.
At time of writing unplanned breakdowns mean that 14 508MW of capacity are unavailable while planned maintenance has taken 6 307MW of capacity from the grid.
The utility went on to say that loadshedding at Stage 2 would take place from 21:00 to 05:00 on Tuesday evening and during the same time period on Wednesday.
As always, we advise checking out the Eskom loadshedding site and Eskomsepush on mobile to keep up to date with what times your area will be affected and when to charge necessary devices for the coming week.
Due to multiple unit failures, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 21:00 tonight to 05:00 on Tuesday, and be repeated from 21:00 on Tuesday night until 05:00
