Across the Spider-Verse delayed until 2023, Part II set for 2024

If you were hoping to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in cinemas this year, you are out of luck as Sony Pictures has announced the first part in this two-part project has been delayed into 2023.

The news was confirmed via a tweet from the movie’s official Twitter account, noting that Part 1 of Across the Spider-Verse is now scheduled for 2nd June 2023, while Part 2 will arrive the following year on 29th March.

The reason as to why the delay is happening remains unclear at this stage, but writer and producer on the project, Christopher Miller tweeted out that it would give the team behind the project “more time to make it great.”

Given that the first film in the series, Enter the Spider-Verse won an Oscar in 2019 and is widely concerned one of the best animated superhero movies and pieces of media featuring a webslinger, like most people, we are happy for the team behind the project to take as much time as they need.

This is also a vitally important project for Sony Pictures, especially as its live-action Spidey-related films like Venom and Morbius have proved quite polarising and Marvel Studios has garnered wild success ever since it started adding Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to the mix.

Either way, we need to pencil in a new date for this hotly anticipated sequel.
