COVID-19 in South Africa: 26th April 2022

In recent days we have seen the number of newly recorded cases for COVID-19 in South Africa begin to rise. While it remains to be seen whether this is indeed the start of a fifth wave of infections, for now there has been no distinct surge.

That said, we continue to monitor daily figures, with the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) showing nearly half the number of new infections compared to the previous day.

To that end, the NDoH says 1 954 infections have been recorded over the past 24 hours, with the total number of cases in the country to date now sitting at 3 764 865.

The department also notes that 30 fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has reached 100 333.

Other key figures in the report sees the recovery rate drop slightly again to 96.5 percent, while more than 23.70 million tests have been conducted to date.

As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 54 127 jabs administered, with 21 607 of these being booster shots. As of 17:00 on 25th April 2022, a total of 34 659 733 vaccines have been administered across SA.
