Logitech MX Anywhere 3 Review: Ready To Go

Over the past couple of years, you have more than likely spent a bit of money to make some much needed upgrades to your work from home (WFH) setup. This may have included a larger monitor to facilitate multitasking, a new headset with mic to assist with videoconferencing or perhaps a new notebook or desktop PC altogether.

Whatever the reason, the tools you may have had prior to the pandemic may not be fit for purpose these days, which brings us to mice.

While many make use of a notebook as their main device for work, the addition of a mouse, be it wired or wireless, is essential for longer stints of working.

So what to choose?

Logitech is hoping it’s one of its offerings, like the MX Anywhere 3. This wireless mouse is designed for work in mind, but does not come cheap at R1 999 (RRP). Spending R2k for a wireless mouse can be hard to justify, which means if you are going to spend that kind of money, it has to be on something rather special.

Is the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 special? We spent the past two weeks with the wireless mouse to find out.

Plug and play

In terms of setup, the MX Anywhere truly shines. On this front, simply plug in the USB receiver in an available port, turn on the mouse via a button underneath and get going. It only takes a second for the MX Anywhere 3 to begin working once you toggle it on, with no need to pair or download settings.

We tried this out on both a MacBook and Windows 11 notebook with equally impressive results.

While the term plug and play is often thrown around a bit too much, it certainly rings true here. From ease of setup alone, the MX Anywhere 3 feels in a class of its own.

That said, there were one or two hiccups.

This specifically occurred while using the MX Anywhere 3 on the MacBook (our daily driver), with some erratic feedback on the mouse cursor. As it turns out, the cause of the erratic performance was our own fault, with the switch from a Bluetooth connected Magic Mouse to the USB receiver-based Logitech wireless mouse resulting in the issues.

When we simply booted up the notebook solely with the MX Anywhere 3, it worked a treat.

Just keeps going

Along simply working as desired, Logitech has added a few other features to this wireless mouse.

The most notable here is battery life. It’s charged via a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, with the latter plugging into the mouse itself. When fully charged, Logitech says it yields as much as 70 days of battery life. In our two weeks of use, after an initial charge after unboxing the mouse, it did not need another charge.

While we cannot attest to the 70 days claim, the MX Anywhere is certainly well appointed in terms of its battery capacity.

One of the other key features here is what Logitech calls a MagSpeed scroll wheel. It is designed to deliver a precision scrolling experience, and a silent one at that. More specifically the ratchet scrolling serves up grater accuracy, but when you need to speed things up, the MX Anywhere can work its way through 1000 lines in a second.

It is a nice feature, but one that we do not think is the key selling point of the device. Namely, as scrolling through 1000 lines in a second may actually be too quick, with content potentially being missed as a result.

Final verdict

Yes, R2k for a wireless mouse can be tough to justify, but the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 justifies its price tag by delivering a great all around performance. It’s easy plug and play functionality is great and works solidly across different operating systems and devices.

Added to this is a superb battery life, which could last a little over two months depending on the frequency of use. Even if you don’t reach 70 days, there is more than enough juice on offer to ensure you are not left in the lurch.

When it comes to a wireless mouse designed for the office of home office in mind, you’ll be hard pressed to do better than the MX Anywhere 3.
