Warhammer 40,000: Darktide breaks radio silence, almost literally

When people use the term “radio silence” it’s not literal and just means a person or entity has been silent for a long time. But today, for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, it has almost literally broken radio silence.

That’s because developer and publisher Fatshark has uploaded a new video to its Youtube channel around the game entitled “Vox Transmission I” and it’s basically a short audio clip played over a radio with a waveform on a screen as the only visual.

From the short snipped of audio we don’t learn much, only that there’s heresy afoot, though we really did know that from previous marketing material for the game.

“In the depths of the hive, the seeds of corruption threaten an overwhelming tide of darkness. A heretical cult known as the Admonition seeks to seize control of the planet Atoma Prime and lay waste to its inhabitants. It is up to you and your allies in the Inquisition to root out the enemy before the city succumbs to Chaos,” reads part of the official description.

Darktide is a co-op FPS game from the same people who made the much beloved Vermintide games. Fatshark has swapped out the fantasy of Warhammer with the sci-fi of Warhammer 40K and players will get to fight waves of Chaos cultists instead of Skaven rats.

As this is labelled as number one, these vox transmission videos are likely going to be a series so more should be unveiled in the future. We’re all for a fun radio drama so hopefully all the transmissions can eventually be spliced together as a coherent story.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide was originally planned to be out last year, but was delayed with the new release date of 13th September 2022. When it launches it will be available for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
