Destiny 2 is getting its first new PvP map since 2019

Reset the clock, the drought of new PvP maps in Destiny 2 is over, well technically it will only be over in a few weeks, but we’re celebrating early.

While Bungie has been pumping out content every few months for Destiny 2, the PvP side of the game hasn’t seen new content such as maps or game modes for some time now. Now, Bungie has announced that in Season 17, PvP is finally getting some love.

In the most recent This Week at Bungie update, the developer announced some changes to Iron Banner which includes the return of a Destiny favourite – Rift.

More on Rift in a bit though because the best news of the day is the launch of a new map called Disjunction.

“The map is called Disjunction and is a symmetric map with a base on either end, three lanes with plenty of crossovers, and large backfields. It takes place in the swampy Pyramid area of Savathûn’s Throne World, so expect lots of many-butted horses, transparent brown glass, and art deco designs,” Bungie writes.

You can see a teaser of the map in the header image above.

This map will be available for all PvP modes in Crucible from day one of Season 17 which kicks off on 24th May.

Now onto the new, or rather, returning modes including Rift. According to the developer, “Rift is an objective-based Crucible mode that plays more like a game of soccer or rugby (but with pew-pew weapons and no passing) than it does Clash. Teams of Guardians will attempt to take the Spark from the middle of the map into the base of the enemy team and dunk it into the enemy Rift. One dunk equals one point, the first to make it to five points or to have the upper hand by the 10-minute mark wins.”

Rift will be available to play during the two weeks that Iron Banner runs.

The other returning mode is Zone Control which will only be available from 21st June via a new Crucible Labs node. Like Control, Zone Control is objective based, but points are not awarded for dispatching Guardians, but rather for controlling zones.

We are beyond excited for a new PvP map. While Bungie has brought back old maps, players have been asking, nay, begging Bungie for maps on Europa and Savathûn’s Throne World.

We hope that Disjunction doesn’t become like Fragment and star as the only new PvP map for years to come.
